MASSIVE NESTING OF OLIVE RIDLEY TURTLES IN COSTA RICA
Thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles arrive at Ostional beach to lay their eggs October 24. More than 30 million eggs are laid by the turtles during a five day period in October. The residents of Ostional, 360 kilometers north of San Jose, collect up to 7 percent of the eggs to sell throughout Costa Rica. Ostional is one of the few beaches in the world where the Olive Ridley turtles arrive in mass to lay their eggs.
