FILE PHOTO OF NOTORIOUS KHMER ROUGE LEADER POL POT
FILE PHOTO, JULY 25, 1997 - Cambodia's former Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot seen on trial July 25, 1997, at the Khmer Rouge stronghold of Anlong Veng in northern Cambodia. Pol Pot, architect of the notorious "killing fields" regime of the late 1970's, was unrepentant for the death and suffering during his Maoist-style revolution, the Far Eastern Economic Review magazine said October 22. In excerpts from an article to be published in this week's edition of the magazine, Pol Pot defended his orders to execute political opponents and blamed many of the deaths, including mass starvation, on the work of Vietnamese agents.
