An unamed Asiatic Golden Cat kitten gets an eye examination prior to being vaccinated against influenza May 14 at the Melbourne Zoo. The species, highly endangered, is native to the Himalayas extending east to southern China and south to Sumatra. Its survival is at serious risk from both loss of habitat and illegal hunting. But the Melbourne Zoo has a history of success in breeding the Golden Cats which are in great demand by other zoos keen to cooperate in an international species survival programme.
