TRADERS TAKE A BREAK OUTSIDE THE AMERITECH CHICAGO OFFICE.
Workers from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange take a break outside the building the CME shares with Ameritech on May 11 after it was announced that SBC Communications Inc. has agreed to buy Ameritech Corp for about $61 billion in the second-largest merger ever, creating the nation's largest local telephone company, with services reaching from Detroit to Los Angeles. In what would be the biggest merger ever in the telecommunications industry, SBC will add another of the seven Baby Bell telephone companies created in the 1984 breakup of AT&T to the two it already owns.
