SWEDISH AMBASSADOR AT TALL SHIP CEREMONY.
The Ambassador from Sweden, Rolf Ekeus (right) talks with Tatiana Copeland, the "Godmother" of the Kalmar Nyckel, before the commissioning ceremony for the Kalmar Nyckel on May 9 in Wilmington, Delaware. The Kalmar Nyckel is the full-size re-creation of the ornate, three masted Dutch-built Swedish warship that brought the first permanent European settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638 and made her official landing at "The Rocks" (site of Fort Christina Park.) Thereafter, she made three more documented roundtrip Atlantic crossings. blj/Phot by Barbara L.
