A YOUNG INDIAN MOSLEM GAZES AT CHEST BEATING MOSLEMS IN NEW DELHI.
An Indian boy (L) gazes at bleeding Shi'te moslems beating their chests with razor blades during the Muharram festival May 7 in New Delhi. The ritual commemorates the killing of Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad by his rivals over 1,300 years ago. Moslems around the world on the 10th day of Islamic Muharram month, mark Hussain's death with some beating themselves with iron chains and slashing with knives as part of the mourning rituals.
