THOUSANDS OF MARCHERS RETRACE 1968 MARCH BY MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. IN MEMPHIS
An estimated four thousand people retrace the last march of Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis, April 4. King was later shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel 30 years ago. Marchers filled the streets eight and more abreast stretching at one point for about nine blocks. They marched up historic Beale Street where the all-night blues bars had closed only hours earlier and through a downtown of nearly deserted sidewalks.
