LEGISLATORS FROM THE RULING GOLKAR PARTY SPEAK TO REPORTERS IN JAKARTA
Legislators from the ruling Golkar party, Marwah Daud Ibrahim (R) and Din Syamsudin, speak to journalists in Jakarta March 6. Party leaders said plans by the country's highest body, the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), to give President Suharto undefined "special powers" in a new sweeping security law would only be used in an emergency threatening national unity. The assembly is gathering in Jakarta to elect a new president, with Suharto expected to be re-elected for a seventh five-year term.
