CHANCELLOR KLIMA TALKS TO A RESCUE WORKER AT MUDSLIDE SITE.
A rescue worker partly covers his face as he stands next to Austrian Chancellor Viktor Klima (C) and Interior Minister Karl Schloegl (R) in front of a mudslide which trapped 12 men inside a collapsed mine July 18. Rescue workers abandoned hope that the miners might still be alive. Eleven of the men became trapped in the magnesium silicate mine in Lassing, some 200 km (125 miles) south-west of Vienna, when they went down the mine in a lift last night to try to rescue a 24-year-old colleague trapped by an earlier mudslide.
