UNAIDS launched a bold new project to help HIV positive women in Africa, Asia and Latin America from infecting their newborns with the deadly virus. The project will provide antenatal care, counseling, improved medical assistance during labour and delivery, support for women who choose not to breastfeed and Glaxo's Wellcome Plc AZT, the first marketed AIDS drug.
