AN OBSERVANT BUDDIST WALKS THROUGH A TIBETAN MONASTERY.
FOR RELEASE WITH STORY BC-CHINA-CLINTON-TIBET - A Tibetan Buddist, holding her prayer wheel, walks in front of the nine tiered Kumbum inside the Palkhor Monastery in Gyantse, south of Lhasa. Pictures of the Buddist shrine, which has 108 chapels appear on lampshades, store fronts and on products found in Lhasa. When U.S. President Bill Clinton meets Chinese President Jiang Zemin on June 27, he will have to reconcile Western images of a mystical cloudbound Shangri La with Chinese leaders' staunch views on national unity and human rights.
