PROTESTORS GATHER IN FRONT OF GOVERNOR'S OFFICE IN DILI.
Pro-Indonesia protestors gather in front of the governor's seafront office in East Timor's capital of Dili during a government-sponsored demonstration June 26. Civil servants, who had been asked to join the protest, reacted coolly towards the protest. Indonesia invaded East Timor in 1975 and annexed it the following year in a move not recognised by the United Nations. East Timorese have been divided on the issue of a referendum on independence or maintaining its integration with Indonesia.
