A team member holds out a sign to let Spanish pilot Alex Criville know that Australian world champion Michael Doohan had quit the race after the first lap of the 500 cc Madrid Grand Prix in the Jarama racetrack June 14. Doohan fell in the first curve, and Spain's Carlos Checa, riding an Honda, won the race in 47' 21.513.
