INITIAL APPEARANCE OF BOSNIAN MUSLIM NASER ORIC AT WAR TRIBUNAL.
Bosnian Muslim wartime commander Naser Oric, who led the doomed 1995
defence of Srebrenica appears for an inital appearance before Judge
Richard May at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former
Yugoslavia in The Hague, April 15, 2003. Oric - considered a hero by
many Bosnian Muslims for spearheading the defence of Srebrenica - is
charged with responsibility for the murder and mistreatment of Serbs in
custody there in 1992-93. Oric, 36, pleaded not guilty to six counts of
violations of the laws or customs of war including murder, cruel
treatment and wanton destruction of cities, towns or villages.
