A BABY CHIMPANZEE RESCUED FROM SOUTHERN SUDAN PEEPS OUT ON ARRIVAL IN
NAIROBI.
A baby chimpanzee rescued from bushmeat trader in southern Sudan by
wildife workers, peeps on arrival at Nairobi's Wilson Airport October
15, 2003. Despite laws against the killing of wild animals and trade in
endangered species, the ongoing conflict in Sudan and neighbouring
Democratic Republic of Congo makes it almost impossible for authorities
to enforce the laws. The rescue of Help and five other chimpanzees was
conducted after authorities in southern Sudan sought Kenya's assistance
in resettling the orphaned chimps. REUTERS/Antony Njuguna REUTERS
