Ali Osman Taha, Sudan's vice president, smiles as he arrives for peace
talks with John Garang, head of the Sudan People's Liberation Army
(SPLA) (unseen) December 6, 2003 at Lake Naivasha, some 90 km (55
miles) northwest of the Kenyan capital. Taha and Garang have told the
United States, which is putting heavy pressure on both sides, that they
