Roman Catholic Bishop Sean Patrick O'Malley arrives in his Franciscan
cassock and sandals for his first news conference in Boston after being
named the new Archbishop of Boston by Pope John Paul II July 1, 2003.
Bishop O'Malley replaces Cardinal Bernard Law, who resigned in December
2002 following a scandal involving priests accused of child sex abuse
in the diocese. O'Malley is currently serving as the bishop of Palm
