NUN ATTENDS SOLEMN MASS LEAD BY POPE JOHN PAUL II IN RISORGIMENTO
SQUARE IN BANSKA BYSTRICA.
A nun holds a cross as she attends a solemn mass lead by John Paul II
in Risorgimento Square at Banska Bystrica September 12, 2003. A
somewhat stronger and refreshed looking Pope John Paul comforted
victims of Slovakia's communist past at a mass for tens of thousands on
Friday, partially allaying growing fears over his health. Although he
appeared in better form than on his first day in the country on
Thursday, Vatican officials decided that a cardinal would read most of
his sermon to ease his burden during an open air mass in the old city
of Banska Bystrica. REUTERS/Max Rossi
