A Taliban fighter Mohammad Ishaq poses as he pauses during a session to get used to his new leg prosthesis at a rehabilitation center in Kabul, Afghanistan October 12, 2021. Ishaq lost a leg after years of combat against Western troops and Afghan forces and is now getting used to new artificial limbs alongside soldiers of the army he fought to defeat. Sitting in the Red Cross Hospital in Kabul, he speaks simply of the eight years he spent in Helmand, the southern province where some of the bitterest fighting of the war took place and thousands of civilians and combatants were killed and maimed. "For years we fought against the infidels and we defeated them and I was injured," he said, still in the traditional black turban worn by many Taliban fighters. Picture taken October 12, 2021.
