Beth Njoki, who campaigns against police brutality gestures as she stands outside her house in Korogocho slums, Nairobi, Kenya, September 25, 2020. Beth Njoki, 44-year-old, says she was was falsely accused of committing a violent robbery, assaulted and thrown in jail for five days. A Washington, DC-based rights charity International Justice Mission (IJM) eventually took on the case and got her acquitted. Once free Njoki, the mother of three, decided to turn her experience into positive energy that would seek to transform her community's experience with police and also press community members to try to overcome their fear of police because she says it fosters tension between the police and the community.
