Australia's biggest airline, Qantas Airways Ltd announced it will raise passenger fares to combat a 57 percent rise in fuel costs over the past year. Fuel surcharges of A$6 ($4) to A$15 ($10) per ticket would take effect next week and were necessary to defray part of the 'hundreds of millions of dollars' in added fuel costs to the company.
