A MOTHER SKUA GUARDS HER CHICK IN ANTARCTICA.
A mother Skua guards her chick on a rocky outcrop among ice at McMurdo Bay, in Antarctica January 28. These scavenger birds live in some of the harshest conditions on earth and have a wingspans of more than three feet. They can even be found hundreds of miles from the coast high up and on the polar ice cap.
