A member of Choro's Scenarium group plays a Mandolin at a Scenarium bar in Rio de Janeiro in this picture taken September 22, 2004. The music is pre-rock and even pre-jazz, yet the Brazilian musicians jamming on old "Choro" standards are often in their 20's and the crowds they gather are full of dancing teen couples. In trendy nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro, choro, the parent of samba, is living a loud revival that involves local people of all ages and tourist alike. In the last sign of that renaissance, Finnish film director Mika Kaurismaki and producers Marco Foster of Switzerland and Bruno Stropiana of Italy are making a documentary about choro, or chorinho, that they say could popularize the genre outside of Brazil.
