An Afghan man mends sandals, while another cleans the dust off his

by the Afghan opposion Northern Alliance. The Taliban control more than
90 percent of Afghanistan and
the Northern Alliance holds the remainder. Afghanistan's ruling Taliban
on Saturday rejected an offer by U.S. President George W. Bush to halt
air strikes if they handed over Saudi-born fugitive Osama bin Laden,
saying they would fight until their last breath.
