A SOUTHERN BOOBOOK OWL PREPARES TO BE FED AT SYDNEY'S TARONGA
ZOO.
A native Australian Boobook Owl, also known as a Mapoke Owl, waits to be fed
at Sydney Taronga Zoo's Wildlife Clinic October 15, 2001. The owl, which is
suffering from minor wounds to its beak, was brought in by a member of the
public. The names Boobook and Mapoke are both given to Australia's smallest
and most common owl in an attempt to mimic the bird's territorial call.
