A sign in Galtuer points to the Jam Valley, indicating a hike lasting three hours. A group of 10 German off-piste trekkers, who climbed the mountains with the help of fur-bottomed skis, were struck by an avalanche on Tuesday near the hut in the valley that leads into Galtuer. Nine were killed and another woman injured in the accident.
