Police detain leader of the opposition United Civil Party Lebedko during a demonstration in Minsk
Police detain the leader of the opposition United Civil Party Anatoly Lebedko during a demonstration in Minsk December 10, 2006. Police in Belarus on Sunday detained about 20 opposition supporters who staged a rare protest in the capital of the tightly-controlled ex-Soviet state, said a Reuters reporter at the scene. The protest was in support of Alexander Kozulin, who unsuccessfully challenged President Alexander Lukashenko in an election in March and is now serving a 5-1/2-year prison term for organising banned demonstrations.
