DESTRUCTION OF BELGIAN BANK NOTES.
An employee of the Belgian Central Bank stands infront of brown
palettes containing 10 million Belgian francs each, as she places
bundles of 2,000 Belgian franc notes on a rack to be destroyed in
Brussels January 7, 2002. The destruction of large amounts of francs
notes, which started in December, could take up to six month at an
average of 320,000 notes shredded per hour. There are still 230 million
franc notes in circulation. The Belgian franc remains legal tender
alongside the euro until February 28, 2002. ( 1 U.S. Dollar = 45.21
