An apple, symbolizing Queen Fabiola's sense of humour, is laid on a gate outside the Royal Palace in Brussels December 7, 2014. Belgium's Queen Fabiola, widow of King Baudouin and queen between 1960 and 1993, died on Friday at the age of 86, the royal palace said. The Spanish-born queen responded to a series of anonymous death threats published in the newspapers, stating she was to be shot with a crossbow, by waving an apple to the crowd in reference to the William Tell folk tale, during her appearance at the country's national holiday celebrations in 2009.
