Mexican eggs are destroyed by the Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture in Tecun Uman
Mexican eggs are destroyed by the Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture in Tecun Uman, Guatemala January 12, 2006. The eggs were confiscated near the Mexican border at a roadblock set up to stop the flow of contraband eggs entering the country. Guatemala is struggling to stop the illegal flow of cheap and sometimes spoiled Mexican eggs across its river border after an outbreak in Mexico last month of a low-risk strain of bird flu. The eggs, often weeks old and infested with worms, can carry bird flu as well other diseases like tuberculosis, salmonella and e. coli, officials say. Picture taken January 12, 2006.
