A raft, loaded with eggs from Mexico, crosses the Suchiate river into Guatemala
A raft, loaded with eggs from Mexico, illegally crosses the Suchiate river into Guatemala, in the border town of Tecun Uman January 12, 2006. Guatemala is struggling to stop the illegal flow of cheap and sometimes spoiled Mexican eggs across its river border after an outbreak in Mexico last month of a low-risk strain of bird flu. The eggs, often weeks old and infested with worms, can carry bird flu as well other diseases like tuberculosis, salmonella and e. coli, officials say. Picture taken January 12, 2006.
