Former Bosnian Serb leader Biljana Plavsic won permission August 29,
2001 to be released from U.N. detention and to remain in Serbia until
her trial at the Hague war crimes tribunal. "She will be released and
she will reside in Serbia," Judge Richard May ruled after a half-hour
hearing, attended by chief U.N. prosecutor Carla Del Ponte, Serbian
Justice Minister Vladan Batic and Dutch government representatives. No
date was set for the release, but the judge said Plavsic, 71, would be
let out of custody as soon as possible after some administrative
