LIFEGUARDS CIRCLE A SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALE IN RIO DE JANEIRO.
Brazilian lifeguards circle their boat around a southern right whale at
Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro, September 18, 2001. The southern right
whales, which can grow to 18 meters long (59 feet) and weigh up to 100
tons.The whales migrate north from Antarctica to mate from July to
November off the coast of Brazil, South Africa and Australia.
