A combination photo shows a woman on a temporary floating walkway on January 27, 2014 (L), and the same location after the flood water receded on March 24, 2014, on a road to the village of Muchelney in Somerset in southwest England. Reuters photographer Toby Melville shot a series of before-and-after images of Somerset in southwest England, showing parts of the region while submerged by severe floods at the beginning of this year, and again after the waters had subsided. January this year was Britain's wettest in nearly 250 years, and unusually heavy storms inundated large swathes of the British countryside, flooding thousands of homes, damaging transport links and shutting down businesses in the early months of the year. The Association of British Insurers said last month that the industry would have to pay out about 1.1 billion pounds ($1.83 billion) for damage caused by the severe weather between late December and the end of February with the cost from flooding alone set to reach 446 million pounds ($741 million).
