Five-year-old Zain Hashmi addresses a Blood and Bone Marrow Awareness Week conference in London.
Five-year-old Zain Hashmi, who suffers from the blood disorder Beta Thalassaemia, which results in decreased production of normal adult haemoglobin, addresses a Blood and Bone Marrow Awareness Week conference at the Natural History Museum in London, November 24, 2004. Zain's parents, Raj and Shahana, won permission at the High Court in 2003 to try for a "designer baby" to provide a bone marrow transplant donor for Zain, but after six failed attempts at IVF and five miscarriages, they are now appealing to potential ethnic and mixed race donors in the UK and around the world.
