A worker burns the fur off a Mangalica long-haired pig at a slaughterhouse in the western Hungarian city of Szombathely. A workers burns the fur off an indigenous Mangalica long-haired pig at a slaughterhouse in the western Hungarian city of Szombathely, September 25, 2004. The origins of the Mangalica pig can be traced back to 1833 when its porcine ancestors were first brought to Hungary from Siberia. The pig was heading for extinction in the 1990s when it was rediscovered by Spanish Serrano ham producers who have given new life to a declining industry. The low cholesterol content of the meat has also led to greater consumption by more health conscious Hungarians. REUTERS/Laszlo Balogh
