Colombian paralympic cyclist Martinez trains for the Athens 2004 Games.
Colombian disabled athlete Robinson Martinez (bottom) swims alongside an unidentified woman inside a sports center in Cali, in this photo taken May 21, 2004. Martinez, whose left leg was amputated at the age of five to save his life from a snake bite infection, is training to compete in the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games in three different cycling events. His love for bicycles started when he was small, soon after losing his leg. He recalls, "At the beginning it was difficult to dominate the bike, but one gains confidence and learns to balance better as time goes by." Martinez is cautiously confident about his chances in Athens. "I just pray to God that he give me the strength in my leg and the heart to be champion."
