The sun begins to rise behind the southwest guard tower on the Kingston Penitentiary in Kingston, Ontario October 11, 2013. British North America's first penitentiary the Kingston Pen as it is known is now closed. It is situated on prime real estate on the shore of Lake Ontario and despite being designated as a National Historic Site it's fate is unknown. Public tours are currently being held raising money for the United Way. The prison was home to Canada's most famous criminals including Clifford Olson and Paul Bernardo.
