STOCKWELL DAY ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION AS LEADER OF CANADIAN ALLIANCE.
Stockwell Day announces his resignation as leader of the Canadian
Alliance party in Ottawa, December 12, 2001. Day, who had promised to
resign in July under extreme pressure from the party, failed to make
deeper inroads against the governing federal Liberals. Day has yet to
announce if he will be a candidate in the March leadership vote, in
hopes of rebuilding the country's right wing. REUTERS/Jim Young
