An elderly Chechen woman, the mother of one of Chechen rebel leader Shamil Basayev's soldiers, rushes forward to hug Basayev June 20 in Khasavyurt, located some 15 kilometers east of the Chechen border in the Russian republic of Dagestan. Basayev and his men, along with a group of volunteer hostages, left Budyonnovsk, Russia with a stop in Khasavyurt before entering Chechnya where hostages were released and Basayev and his men escaped into the mountains
