Mapuches take part in a protest against the government by placing their hands in a jar of cement, which hardened around them, through a barrier in a public square in Valparaiso city, about 121 km (75 miles) northwest of Santiago July 18, 2012. The demonstration was held in memory of Matias Catrileo Quezada, a Mapuche man who died after being shot during clashes with the police in a land dispute in southern Chile, and to protest a new law proposed by the government which toughens penalties on any type of protest and public disorder without prior permission of local authorities.
