JUDGE JUAN GUZMAN ARRIVES AT MILITARY HOSPITAL FOR PINOCHET EXAMS.
Chilean judge Juan Guzman (L) stands next to an unidentified officer while arriving at the Military Hospital in Santiago, January 10, 2001. Guzman has ordered former Chilean leader Augusto Pinochet to undergo psychological exams as part of his efforts to put him on trial for alleged human rights abuses during his 1973-1990 rule. As in the case for all people older than 70 facing trial in Chile, Pinochet (85) has the right to a psychological examination, which gives him the opportunity to escape trial if he is declared insane or demented.
