A HONG KONG PROTESTER DEMONSTRATES AGAINST CHINESE DISSIDENT XU WENLI'S SENTENCE.
Pro-democracy activist and Legislative councillor Leung Yiu-chung holds a portrait of veteran Chinese dissident Xu Wenli during a demonstration at the government headquarters in Hong Kong December 21. A group protested after a Chinese court sentenced Xu to 13 years in prison for subversion after a trial that lasted just a few hours, his lawyer said December 21. Xu was convicted by the Beijing Number One Intermediate People's Court over his efforts to set up the Chinese Democratic Party. Xu had previously spent 12 years in prison for his role in the 1978-79 Democracy Wall movement.
