Chinese newlyweds and their relatives are covered with a 960-square-metre giant red cloth as they celebrate a "Millennium Wedding" on the Great Wall near Beijing, December 31, 2000. Each of the about 500 couples, paid 3,000 yuan ($360) to participate in the mass wedding which also included official ceremonies and banquets. The giant red cloth symbolised the handkerchief used to cover the face of the bride in a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony.
