Chinese President Jiang Zemin (C) accompanied by his wife Wang Yeping (L) bids farewell to Prime Minister Zhu Rongji at a departure ceremony in Beijing's Great Hall of the People October 18. Jiang begins a 17-day journey today to Europe and the Middle East, but he is unlikely to get involved in discussions about substantive issues during his talks with European leaders.
