FLORIDA AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER BOB CRAWFORD PROMOTES AMERICAN CITRUS IN BEIJING.
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Bob Crawford (C) introduces U.S. grapefruits to a Chinese couple at a Beijing supermarket March 28. Crawford travelled to Beijing to deliver the first shipment of fresh citrus to mainland China from the United States. An agreement on U.S.-China agricultural cooperation, signed on April 10, 1999, lifted the ban on the export of citrus from Arizona, California, Florida and Texas, allowing the United States to export citrus based on U.S. national standards. China has banned imports of U.S. wheat and other grains from the Pacific Northwest for over 26 years.
