VILLAGE CHILDREN SCRAMBLE FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR PAPERCUTS BY ARTIST LI KE IN FENGXIANG.
Village children scramble for Chinese New Year papercuts made by peasant farmer Li Ke, 60, grandmaster of the ancient craft of papercutting, in the courtyard of his house in Fengxiang. So renowned are the papercuts of Li Ke that he has exhibited his work in France and Japan. But at home in his tiny village, it is a dying art. The old grandmaster can find no one to inherit his craft. It is an ancient tradition for Chinese in northern Shaanxi province to herald in the New Year with papercuts. Picture taken January 26.
