A VILLAGE GIRL STICKS CHINESE NEW YEAR PAPERCUTS TO A WINDOW IN FENGXIANG.
A village girl sticks Chinese New Year papercuts on a window in Fengxiang. The papercuts were made by peasant farmer Li Ke, 60, grandmaster of the ancient craft of papercutting. So renowned are the papercuts of Li Ke that he has exhibited his work in France and Japan. But at home in his tiny village, it is a dying art. The old grandmaster can find no one to inherit his craft. It is an ancient tradition for Chinese in northern Shaanxi province to herald in the New Year with papercuts. Picture taken January 26.
