China has banned imports of cloven-hoofed animals and their products from the Netherlands and Ireland to prevent foot-and-mouth disease from entering the country, the Xinhua news agency said Monday. China has had no reported cases of foot-and-mouth disease associated with the current outbreak in Europe, but officials have said there were some mainland cases in 1999.
