CHINESE TIGHTROPE WALKER CELEBRATES WORLD RECORD NEAR BEIJING.
Chinese tightrope walker Adili Wushouer, a Uighur from China's western
Xinjiang province, celebrates 35 metres (115 feet) above Jinhai Lake on
the outskirts of Beijing after he broke the world record of spending 22
days on the high wire, May 7, 2002. Adili stayed on the rope for 22
days, beating the 21-day Guinness world record set by a Canadian last
year. The 31-year-old man performed on the wire for an average of five
hours every day, using a balance bar but without any safety belt.
